Cllr Joe Neville questions Council on Tallaght items

A summary of recent items from the Joe Neville (FF) emailing list:

Pruning & Planting of Trees
South Dublin County Council will endeavour to deal with the pruning of a large bush reported at an area in Avonmore Park as part of the current Arboricultural Programme of pruning and planting which will be ongoing until March 2007.

It is planned to give particular attention to the matter of tree planting and pruning in the New Bawn / Seskin View area under the 2007/08 Arboricultural Programme. A preliminary assessment of the area has identified a number of suitable sites for tree planting. Some locations where trees have previously been removed and thus perceived as “missing” may not automatically be suitable for replanting primarily for reasons of proximity to public lighting columns or other services or the resident may not wish to have a tree planted.

A more detailed assessment of the tree planting requirement in the area will be undertaken over the coming months and a list of proposed locations for planting will be presented to the Tallaght Area Committee as part of the 2007/08 Arboricultural Programme in the autumn.

Extensive replacement tree planting was carried out on the perimeter of the open space at Westpark, Tallaght, as part of the 2005-2006 Arboricultural programme for the area.

The further removal of overgrown and damaged poplar trees and the planting of new replacement trees at Westpark, is planned for this year’s programme and will be carried out before the end of March 2007.

Dodder Valley Park
The establishment of a Slí na Sláinte route through the Dodder Valley Park is being considered in association with the Irish Heart Foundation. Proposals when available will be presented to the Tallaght Area Committee. In the meantime, plans are in progress for the establishment during 2007 of a Slí na Sláinte route through Tymon Park.

The request for additional litter bins at the entrance to Dodder ValleyPark from Old Bawn Road has been examined by the engineer in charge of the [South Dublin County Council] cleansing section. The engineer reports that it is not possible to service litter bins at this location due to traffic flows in the area and the absence of a facility to allow the servicing vehicle to pull in off the main road and away from the flow of traffic. Unfortunately it is not possible to install new litter bins at the location in question for this reason.

Regarding the removal of graffiti on the boundary walls of Dodder Valley Park, the Litter Warden has been requested to inspect the graffiti in question and to make contact with the Old Bawn Residents Association as requested regarding this matter. The Litter Warden will offer any advice and assistance possible to the Association.

Drainage problems in Raheen, Maplewood & Springfield
The Council proposes to carry out an investigation into the main foul drainage system within the Raheen/Maplewood/Springfield area as early as possible in 2007. This investigation will involve CCTV survey of the mains and inspection of manholes throughout the area to establish the existence of any faults within the network.

There are a number of problems on private combined drains in the area inrelation to broadstraps which have become faulty over time and are causing blockages and these are currently being dealt with by the Drainage Maintenance Section and the householders involved.
